I wanted to get a few gifts and to see what “everyday” Stone Town looks like and not just where the tourists go. Having a daughter that lives there and speaks a bit of Swahili help as lot. She even helped 2 ladies that were lost in the maze of alleys find their way out.
“Stone Town, also known as Mji Mkongwe, (which is Swahili for ‘Old Town) is the old part of Zanzibar City, the main city of Zanzibar, in Tanzania. Stone Town is located on the western coast of Unguja, the main island of the Zanzibar Archipelago”
After a slight shower the sun came out and we could go have a coffee in the Forodhani Gardens in front of the Old Fort / House of Wonders and on the waterfront.
From here we ventured into the Old part of Stone Town were there are not as many shops. Those old doors… you really cannot get enough of them!
Shopping is hard work… when you just get to tag along 🙂
We did not finish our shopping but returned 2 days later to get the last few things and visited the Zanzibar Darajani Market. (I highly recommend it but be there early!)
