The Zanzibar Spice Tour with Zan Tours was really amazing despite the drizzle that came down during our walking tour. We smelled, tasted, felt and learned so much about the various spices. We loved the special touch of the crowns and jewellery they make out of the palm-leaves for us while we walk and present it to us close to the end. The Spice Tour is well worth a visit!
“The history of Zanzibar would be incomplete without the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper and many other spices which are essential ingredient in a Zanzibari’s everyday life, it is the island’s connection to spices and herbs. Zanzibar and Spice is a romantic entanglement that dates back to the 16th century. Apart from being an important commodity on the trade routes.”
We got to watch one of the men climb up a coconut tree, singing and doing tricks with only a rope to help him up and down. The fruit tasting in the end is also fun and refreshing. We found the spices that they sell there are a bit expensive but we got a few bags and then bought more at the market in Stone Town where it is cheaper. 😉
We bought my son a Jackfruit which he loved and was super happy about. Jackfruit is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world. It is rather a sticky fruit when cutting it up, so use gloves or learn the trick of the fruit… LOL
Here is a page with lots of info about the Jackfruit
