The mountains are calling

“Although I deeply love oceans, deserts and other wild landscapes, it is only mountains that beckon me with that sort of painful magnetic pull to walk deeper and deeper into their beauty. They keep me continuously wanting to know more, feel more, see more.”
Victoria Erickson

“The climb is tough, but the view from the top is worth it!”

“It is easier to go down a hill than up, but the view is from the top!”

“The Best View Comes After The Hardest Climb”

“It is the climbing of the mountain that makes the view from the top so breathtaking”

“This is the great adventure and the great discovery. No one can do it for us. Until we have reached the top of the mountain we cannot see in full glory the view that lies beyond: but glimpses of light illumine our path to the mountain.” – Juan

Be a Hill Seeker! “Most of us try to avoid hills, but what’s so good about flat? Think about it: flat tires, flat hair, flat returns and–the ultimate–flat lining. Life happens on the hills. They’re opportunities to prove to yourself that you’re stronger than you ever imagined. If you never attempt the ascent, you’ll never know the thrill of swooshing down the other side.” (author unknown)

  1. HI Tania – I’m green at the gills: wish I had your head for murky depths and giddy heights and endless appetite. I’ve enjoyed reading your experiences on RIM traverses and on the Amathola.
I have always longed to walk the Amatholas but was cautioned by a hike leader that there are very exposed sections. But I’ll settle for all else.
I thought under “QUOTES” I’d find costs of long hikes or adventures. Do you put hikes together or do you have a burgeoning hiking group? The hikes you describe hardly feature on the lists of clubs. And if they do, you can be sure most hikers’ feet will hurtle along to the next hut.
Please let me into what seems to be a relaxed hiking group.
